“Give a Book” Foundation

"Give a Book" is а foundation that helps volunteers become mentors and friends of children deprived of parental care. Since 2010 we have helped thousands of volunteers meet thousands of children.
Not all of these meetings happened to become friendships, but there are more than 1000 friendships that last, some of them for years and the lives of these children have been touched and changed. They are not atomic physicists, but they are honest working people whom we are proud of.
We believe that every child should have the chance to reach their potential and we, together with our volunteers and the support of Childish, work to achieve this goal.
Give a Book has been acknowledged as one of the most meaningful and popular volunteering organisations in Bulgaria through multiple awards by the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, Forbes, Capital Magazine, and others.

It is always easier to describe what we do through a single story, like the story of Zoyko.

We met Zoyko ten years ago in an orphanage in Lom and he impressed us with his curiosity. He had learned some magic tricks from YouTube and was eager to show them to us. He had thought of doing this for a living but was discouraged by those around him, who believed that this was just a nice little hobby, not a career choice. But his potential was much bigger.

He found friends among our volunteers and they helped him in different ways to follow his dream. He also worked hard and proved himself to be smart and brave. He went through enormously difficult times but is now gaining popularity with his magic, from which he makes a living. “If it weren't for the “Give a Book” volunteers, who helped me believe in my dream and taught me that it requires hard work, I would have probably become a very skilled pickpocket.”
